Happy New Year from the Alamo IFT!  We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year.  Thank you to those who were able to attend the Christmas Dinner at River City Grill.

As we turn our attention to 2016, we have several events you will want to take note of and be a part of as implementation year takes hold for FSMA, and the FDA’s nutritional labelling regulation’s final ruling will be announced at the end of the year.  Also FDA just released their Dietary Guidelines, and members can check out the on-demad webcast.

As clean label initiatives move forward, and company’s position themselves to stay abreast of the latest trends and regulations, we at Alamo IFT hope this year’s Lunch-N-Learn schedule, and industry events will benefit our members to the full.  We kick off the year, Jan 28th with an event you will definitely want to attend.  Join us, along with IFT President Colin Dennis, to hear about the latest trends and what’s in-store for IFT for the coming year and beyond.  Also, Tom Foley, membership director, will be here to discuss membership benefits and member engagement.   Following  up in February, Dr. Gary Acuff, will be speaking to the group at Texas Food Solutions in Katy, TX, and will be hosting a FSMA short course on Preventative Controls.  Completion of this 2.5 day course will provide certification for trained individuals as “qualified” to develop FSMA food safety plans. For companies that are FDA inspected this will be a requirement.

We hope you can make it to the upcoming Lunch-N-Learn at CH Guenther, it should be very informative, and always a good opportunity for networking.  Until then, wishing everyone a wonderful start to the new year!

Sincerely,

Lex Hander
